Chapel Bridge

The world-famous Chapel Bridge is the landmark of Lucerne and the oldest wooden bridge in Europe. The bridge is named after the neighbouring St. Peter's Chapel and was built in the first half of the 14th century. The panels inserted in the 17th century depict scenes from Swiss and city history as well as the biographies of the city’s patron saints.

KKL Lucerne

The Culture and Congress Centre Lucerne combines outstanding architecture, culture and gastronomy, and is the work of the Parisian architect Jean Nouvel. The concert hall with 1,840 seats is renowned for its phenomenal acoustics. The views from two roof terraces over the lake and the old town are impressive.

Lion Monument

The "Dying Lion of Lucerne" is one of the most famous monuments in the world. It was carved into the natural rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss who fell in the Tuileries in 1792. The American writer Mark Twain hailed "the Lion of Lucerne as the saddest and most moving piece of stone in the world".

Musegg Wall

The Musegg Wall with its nine towers is part of Lucerne's historic city fortifications, which were built from the 13th century onwards. The clock on the Zytturm, dating from 1535, is the oldest in the city. It has the privilege of striking the hours one minute before all the other clocks in the city. Four of the towers of the well-preserved city wall are open to the public.

Old Town

In the Old Town, there are picturesque squares surrounded by houses with historic frescoes. Particularly worth seeing are the Weinmarkt, where the people of Lucerne in 1332 vowed the Swiss Confederation with Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden, the Hirschenplatz, whose name goes back to the medieval inn of the same name, as well as the Kornmarkt with the town hall.

Pilatus

Weather-maker, dragon’s perch and the world’s steepest cogwheel railway: Lucerne’s local mountain Pilatus is one of the most legendary places in the Lucerne – Lake Lucerne region. On clear days, it offers a panorama of 73 Alpine peaks. For well over a hundred years, the railcars of the Pilatus Railway have been ascending the summit of Pilatus on the world’s most daring cogwheel railway route.
